How to read a Dodge VIN
Dodge has used more manufacturer codes than most makes. Older vehicles start with a B or a D after the country digit: 1B3 for a US-built car, 1D7 for a truck. Newer ones use the shared C codes: 2C3 is a car built in Canada, 1C4 a US-built SUV, 3C4 one from Mexico.
The Charger and Challenger are built in Canada, which is why their VINs start with 2. In the sample VIN 2C3CDXBG2EH100001, a 2014 Charger SE, the letter H in position 11 stands for the Brampton plant.
Position 8 is the engine code. On a Charger or Challenger that single character is the difference between a V6 and a V8, and it is the first thing to check on a car advertised as an R/T or a Scat Pack.

Dodge VIN questions
2C3 for the Charger and Challenger, 1C4 and 3C4 for SUVs and minivans, and 1B3, 2B3 or 1D7 on older cars and trucks. The first digit is the country: 1 United States, 2 Canada, 3 Mexico.
Decode the VIN and look at the engine. It comes from the 8th character, which cannot be changed by swapping badges.
Pickups have been sold under the separate Ram brand since the 2010s. A newer truck decodes as Ram, an older one as Dodge.
The first digit is the country and the 11th character the plant. The result shows the city, for example Brampton for the Charger and Challenger.
