How to read a Chevrolet VIN
Chevrolet shares its codes with the rest of General Motors. 1G1 is a US-built passenger car, 1GC a pickup, 1GN an SUV. The same pattern with a 2 is Canada and with a 3 Mexico, so 3GC is a Silverado from a Mexican plant.
Small Chevrolets built by GM Korea start with KL: KL1, KL7 and KL8. A few models built by partners keep the partner's code, such as 3N6 for a van built by Nissan in Mexico.
On a GM vehicle position 8 is the engine code, the character parts counters ask for. Position 11 is the plant: in the sample VIN 1GCUKREC6FF100001, a 2015 Silverado, the letter F stands for Flint. A 2018 Malibu with F in that position came from Kansas City, because plant letters are reused across vehicle lines.

Chevrolet VIN questions
1G1 for US-built cars, 1GC for trucks and 1GN for SUVs. A leading 2 means Canada, 3 means Mexico and KL means GM Korea.
The 8th. GM uses one character for the engine, and the decoder shows it as displacement, cylinders and fuel type.
They are built by the same company in the same plants. Only the third character differs: for example 1GC is a Chevrolet truck and 1GT a GMC truck.
Only from 1981 on. Earlier Chevrolets used 13-character numbers in a different format, which the database does not cover.
